Chapter 7 - The Trap Snaps Shut

Adrian thought he was being clever.
He filed a federal report claiming interstate parental kidnapping.
He sat in his cheap motel room, waiting for the news that Claire had been arrested.
Instead, a loud, rhythmic knocking rattled his motel door.
"Mr. Vale! Open up! FBI!"
Adrian smiled, assuming they were here to take his statement.
He unlatched the deadbolt and pulled the door open.
Three federal agents in tactical gear pushed past him, slamming him against the wall.
"Adrian Vale, you are under arrest," the lead agent announced.
"What?" Adrian choked out, feeling cold metal cuffs snap around his wrists. "For what?!"
"Wire fraud, corporate embezzlement, and tax evasion," the agent read calmly.
Adrian was dragged out of the motel room and thrown into the back of a black SUV.
As they drove toward the federal building, the lead agent handed him a document.
It was a financial ledger from Vale Industries.
Adrian’s personal expenses—the sports cars, the yachts, Savannah’s apartment—were all highlighted.
He had been using corporate funds to finance his lavish lifestyle.
He had always thought he was invincible because he was the CEO.
"An anonymous whistleblower provided us with your internal accounting," the agent said.
It wasn't anonymous.
Adrian knew exactly who had handed the FBI the smoking gun.
Claire had known about his illegal spending for years.

She had just waited until she had complete control of the company before pulling the trigger.
He had walked directly into her final trap.
