Chapter 6 - The Sabotage

Maya was a coward, which made her the perfect weapon.

The next morning, the court-ordered DNA test was scheduled at an independent clinic. Julian arrived flanked by his high-priced legal team, looking smug. He believed that if he proved he was the father, the judge would grant him custody and, by extension, control of the company.

“Enjoy your last few days in that townhouse, Clara,” Julian sneered as the nurse swabbed the inside of his cheek. “When I get custody, I’m putting you on the street.”

I just smiled. “We’ll see, Julian.”

What Julian didn't know was that Maya had visited my lawyer’s office at 6:00 AM that morning. In exchange for total immunity and a small, quiet severance package to leave Seattle forever, Maya had signed a sworn, notarized affidavit.

She detailed the embezzlement. She detailed the offshore accounts. And most importantly, she detailed Julian’s plan to kidnap Leo and flee to a non-extradition country if the custody ruling didn't go his way.

It was the kill shot.

Two days later, the DNA results came back. A 99.9% match. Julian Vance was the father.

Julian immediately called an emergency hearing, demanding the judge enforce his parental rights and hand over the proxy control of the trust.

“Your Honor,” Julian’s lawyer proclaimed in the courtroom, “My client is the biological father. He is the CEO of the company in question. The mother has a history of vindictive behavior and has maliciously withheld this child. We demand immediate physical custody.”

The judge, a stern woman with zero tolerance for grandstanding, looked over her glasses at my lawyer, David. “Counsel? Do you have a response?”

David stood up, adjusting his suit jacket. “We do, Your Honor. We do not contest paternity. In fact, we welcome it. Because Julian Vance’s biological connection to the child is the very reason we are filing an emergency restraining order against him, alongside a motion to strip him of all parental rights permanently.”

Julian laughed out loud in the courtroom. “On what grounds?!”

May you like

David didn't look at Julian. He handed a thick stack of documents to the bailiff, who passed them to the judge.

“On the grounds of federal wire fraud, embezzlement, and a documented, sworn conspiracy to commit international parental kidnapping, Your Honor.”
