Chapter 10 - A Flawless Future

Five years later.

The rooftop restaurant overlooked the glittering city skyline, the lights reflecting off the champagne flutes on our table. I raised my glass, the diamond on my finger catching the light.

“To the newest Vice President of Acquisitions,” Maya cheered, clinking her glass against mine. “I always knew you were going to run the world, Lila.”

I smiled, taking a sip of the crisp champagne. Beside me sat Julian, my fiancé, a man who treated me with the kind of profound respect and gentleness I once thought was entirely fictional. He kissed my temple, his arm wrapped warmly around my waist.

My life was unrecognizable from the terrified girl who had been struck down in a graduation gown.

My mother had recently been released on parole. She had reached out via a third party, asking for a meeting, claiming she had changed. I politely, but firmly, declined. I had forgiven them in my heart—not for their sake, but for my own peace—but forgiveness did not require readmission into my life. Some doors, once closed, must remain locked forever.

My father was still serving his time, bitter and isolated. Lucas had eventually found a job managing a fast-food restaurant, struggling to pay off the debts he had accrued in his own name.

They were living the lives they had earned. And I was living the life I had fought for.

I looked around the table at Maya, Julian, and the incredible group of friends we had cultivated over the years. This was my family. A family built on trust, honesty, and unconditional support.

“Thank you,” I said, looking at the city lights. “But I didn't get here alone. I got here because I finally learned my own worth.”

I had lost a toxic family, but in the process, I had found myself. And as I looked toward the beautiful, flawless future stretching out before me, I knew that no one would ever be able to take it away from me again.
