Chapter 8 - The Hunt For Aunt Ruth

With Mave safe and asleep under a mountain of warm blankets, Donovan unleashed hell.

He didn't just want to win the custody case anymore; he wanted to destroy Victor Vance.

"Find the Aunt," Donovan ordered Pax.

"She’s the missing link."

"If we have Ruth's testimony, Victor's threats mean nothing."

Pax utilized every contact he had in the criminal underworld.

It took thirty hours of relentless searching, bribes, and kicked-in doors.

They finally found Ruth Callaway hiding in a cheap motel on the outskirts of the state.

Pax brought her to the penthouse, tossing her onto the leather sofa.

Ruth looked terrified, clutching a cheap purse to her chest.

"Please," she begged, looking at Donovan’s cold, gray eyes.

"Vance said he would kill me if I didn't sign the trust over to his shell company."

"He told me to leave the girl at your hotel because he knew you hated the Callaway family."

"He thought you would just throw her to the system."

Donovan stepped closer, looming over her.

"You abandoned your own blood for a payout and a threat," he sneered.

"You left a six-year-old girl alone with a stuffed animal."

Ruth began to cry, but Donovan felt no pity.

"You are going to testify in court tomorrow," Donovan demanded.

"You are going to tell the judge exactly what Victor Vance did."

"If you do, I will protect you from him."

"If you don't, I will personally throw you out of this window."

Ruth nodded frantically, her face pale with terror.

Donovan had all the ammunition he needed.

Now, it was time for war.
