Chapter 6 - The Ambush at the Office

By Thursday, Clara was running out of options and sanity. Her landlord had sent an automated reminder that the rent would be drafted on the first of the month, and her bank account was currently sitting at a meager $312.40. Ignored by Julian and blocked on every communication channel, she decided to ambush him where she knew he couldn't hide: his corporate headquarters in the financial district.

At 1:30 PM, Clara pushed through the revolving glass doors of Vance Architectural Solutions, wearing her most expensive designer sunglasses and carrying an aura of manufactured outrage. She marched straight toward the polished marble reception desk, ignoring the security guard stationed near the elevators.

"I need to see my brother immediately," Clara demanded, slapping her palm against the desk where a young receptionist named Maya looked up in surprise. "Tell Julian Vance that his sister is here, and I am not leaving this lobby until he comes down and fixes my bank accounts."

"I'm sorry, ma'am, but Mr. Vance is currently in a board meeting," the receptionist replied politely, checking her screen. "Do you have a scheduled appointment?"

"I don't need an appointment! I am his family!" Clara screamed, her voice echoing off the high glass ceilings, drawing stares from visiting executives and staff alike. "He is trying to ruin my life over a spoiled little brat's haircut! Call him down here right now!"

The head of building security, a burly former marine named Officer Davis, stepped forward immediately, placing himself between Clara and the reception desk. "Ma'am, I need you to lower your voice and step back from the counter."

Just then, the private elevator chimed, and Julian stepped out alongside two senior partners from a visiting firm. He froze as he saw the commotion. Clara spotted him instantly and lunged forward.

"Julian! You cowardly bastard!" she shrieked, trying to push past Officer Davis. "You turn my cards back on right now! My girls need groceries! You owe me!"

Julian didn't even flinch. He turned to Officer Davis with a face devoid of any familial recognition. "Officer, this individual is trespassing and harassing my staff. Please escort her off the private property immediately. If she resists or returns, contact the city police and press formal trespassing charges."

"Julian! You can't do this to me!" Clara screamed as two security guards firmly grasped her elbows and physically guided her backward toward the revolving doors. The entire lobby watched in dead silence as the once-proud, entitled sister was publicly ejected onto the city sidewalk like a common vagrant.
