Chapter 5 - The Legal Shield

While Julian handled the family fallout, Elena was in her natural element: the legal arena. As a senior partner at one of the city's top civil litigation firms, she knew better than to leave her family's safety to verbal promises. Clara was desperate, and desperate people with narcissistic tendencies were unpredictable and dangerous.
On Wednesday morning, Elena walked into the family court building downtown, carrying a sleek black binder filled with documentation. She didn't just want a slap on the wrist for Clara; she wanted an impenetrable legal wall around Aria. She met with Judge Harrison in his chambers for an emergency ex-parte hearing, presenting photographs of Aria’s scalp taken before Marcus’s corrective styling, showing the bruised skin from where Clara had roughly grabbed the child's head, alongside the sheer maliciousness of the cut.
"This wasn't an accident, Your Honor," Elena stated coldly, her professional demeanor barely masking the mother lion underneath. "This was a calculated assault on a minor by an adult in a position of trust. My daughter is currently experiencing acute anxiety and sleep disturbances. We have reason to believe the respondent, Clara Vance, will attempt to approach our daughter at her elementary school or our residence to intimidate her into retracting her statements."
Judge Harrison reviewed the color photographs, his brow furrowing deeper with every page. He looked up over his reading glasses. "This is deeply disturbing, Counselor. What is the status of the video recording mentioned in your affidavit?"
"We are currently subpoenaing the cloud backup from the respondent's minor daughter, Chloe, who recorded the incident," Elena replied. "However, the physical evidence of the assault and the respondent's immediate admissions to my husband are more than sufficient for an emergency order."

Judge Harrison signed the document without further hesitation. "Emergency Temporary Restraining Order granted. Ms. Vance is barred from coming within 500 feet of your daughter, your residence, or Aria’s school. If she violates this order, she will be arrested immediately. I will set the formal hearing for a permanent order in three weeks."
When Elena walked out of the courthouse into the bright morning sun, she felt the first genuine breath of relief since Sunday. The shield was forged.
