Chapter 1 - The Final Echo in the Chamber

The heavy iron door of the crematorium slammed shut, trapping the thick scent of ozone and copper inside the frigid room.
The judicial officer, a hardened veteran named Inspector Vance, stood frozen with his hand resting on his holstered weapon.
On the cold steel stretcher, Tat Le Mai was trembling violently, her eyes wide with a horrific mix of confusion and absolute terror.
Dark, viscous blood oozed from the back of her head, matting her hair and dripping onto the sterile white tiles below.
Outside the thick walls, the agonizing wails of her desperate parents echoed through the night, pleading for the authorities to spare their miraculously revived daughter.
Inside the room, the terrified medical staff backed into the shadows, clutching their clipboards like shields against a nightmare they could not comprehend.
No one had ever witnessed a dead woman wake up, let alone an executed murderer who had just taken a bullet to the brainstem.
Vance took a slow, calculated step forward, the rubber soles of his boots squeaking against the blood-stained floor.
He had received his direct orders from the highest command, and the mandate was brutally clear: the execution had not been completed.
He drew his sidearm, the metallic click of the safety echoing like a thunderclap in the suffocating silence of the chamber.
As he aimed the barrel at her forehead, Mai suddenly lurched upward, her trembling, blood-soaked fingers desperately wrapping around his uniform sleeve.
She gasped for air, her severely damaged throat making a wet, terrifying sound as she fought to form words.
"Nguyen," she whispered, her voice a raspy, gurgling plea that sent a sudden shiver down the inspector's spine.
"He planned it... the poison... he made me kill him."
Vance hesitated for a fraction of a second, staring into the desperate, fading eyes of a woman who was offering up her true puppet master.
Before he could process the gravity of this dying confession, the radio on his shoulder cracked to life with harsh, unforgiving static.
"Officer, execute the mandate immediately, do not delay," the commander’s voice barked, devoid of any warmth or mercy.
Vance closed his eyes for a brief moment, swallowing the heavy lump of morality lodged in his throat.

He pulled the trigger, and a deafening blast tore through the small room, finalizing the grim fate of Tat Le Mai once and for all.
Her lifeless body collapsed back onto the steel table, but her final, whispered words hung in the air, lighting a spark that would soon burn down an empire.
