Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

Despite the looming restraining order, Mom couldn't help herself. She thought the rules of the universe didn't apply to her.

Sarah was picking Mia up from school on a Tuesday afternoon. As she walked to the car, a silver Lexus violently swerved into the parking spot next to her.

Helen jumped out, looking unhinged. Her hair was messy, her designer clothes rumpled.

"You little tramp!" Helen screamed across the parking lot, lunging toward Sarah. "You destroyed my family! You stole my son!"

Sarah didn't cower. She didn't flinch.

She calmly placed Mia into the backseat, locked the doors, and turned to face the monster who had terrorized her for years.

"I didn't steal anything, Helen," Sarah said, her voice carrying across the school pick-up line. Other parents were stopping, pulling out their phones to record. "Your son left you because you are an abusive, toxic woman who hits people when she doesn't get her way."

"I have a right to my granddaughter!" Helen shrieked, reaching for the door handle of our car.

"Touch my car, and I will have you arrested in front of this entire school," Sarah said, pulling out her phone and dialing 911.

Helen froze. She looked around, suddenly realizing she had an audience. The country club facade was entirely shattered. She was just a screaming, unhinged woman in a school parking lot.

Helen scrambled back into her Lexus and sped away, running a stop sign on the way out.
