Chapter 7 - The Smear CampaignPeople who are guilty often scream the loudest to convince the world they are innocent.

Chloe couldn't handle the fact that the neighborhood wives had stopped inviting her to brunch. Desperate to control the narrative, she took to Facebook and the Crestview neighborhood forum.
Her post was a masterpiece of victimhood.
“I have been silent for too long. A few weeks ago, I suffered a terrifying mental breakdown. Julian Vance, a trusted friend, was simply trying to calm me down by the pool when his wife, Elena, arrived. She violently attacked us, screaming and throwing things, and triggered an alarm to publicly humiliate me while I was having a medical emergency. I am seeking a restraining order against her.”
The comments poured in immediately. Some neighbors were sympathetic, others confused. My phone started blowing up with texts from concerned acquaintances.
Julian commented on her post: “Elena has always struggled with her temper. I am just glad no one was seriously hurt. Praying for peace.”
I sat at my kitchen island, reading the post on my iPad.
I didn't reply to the comments. I didn't defend myself.
Instead, I logged into my Apex Security account. The patio camera, which recorded in 4K resolution and crystal-clear audio, had captured the entire 5:42 p.m. incident. I downloaded the file, ensuring the time stamp and audio were perfectly synced.
I uploaded the video directly to the neighborhood forum as a standalone post.
My caption was simple: “For anyone concerned about Chloe’s ‘medical emergency’ or my ‘violent attack.’ Here is the unedited security footage. Enjoy.”
I watched the view count tick up. 10. 50. 200 views.

The silence in the subdivision was permanent.
