Chapter 8 - The Lumber Mill

The Blackwood Mill loomed out of the darkness like a decaying metal skeleton. Rusted corrugated steel walls and broken windows gave it a haunted look. There were three unmarked trucks parked outside, heavily guarded by men carrying assault rifles.
Sarah found a rusted-out water tower near the edge of the property. "Leo, you and Maya hide in the base of this tower. Do not make a sound," she instructed.
Sarah and Miller moved like ghosts through the shadows. They synchronized their movements, taking out the two perimeter guards silently with chokeholds. They breached a side door, entering the massive, cavernous warehouse.
Inside, the horror was fully revealed. There were dozens of cages lining the walls. Women and children were huddled inside, terrified and silent. In the center of the room, Vance was talking to the corrupted Police Captain, handing him a thick briefcase full of cash.
"The ship leaves port at 5:00 AM," Vance was saying. "Make sure the roads are clear."
Sarah scanned the cages and saw her—a young woman with Leo’s eyes, clutching the bars, her face bruised but defiant. The mother.
"Miller, you take the Captain. I'll take Vance," Sarah whispered.
