Chapter 5 - The Rat in a Trap

"Derek, shut your mouth!" Sylvia screamed, completely losing the polished, society-wife facade. She looked feral.
The two federal agents moved forward. "Sylvia Vance, you are under arrest for corporate fraud, embezzlement, and suspicion of murder."
As the cuffs clicked around her wrists, Sylvia glared at me with pure, unadulterated hatred. "You think you’ve won? I spent three months shredding his files. I covered my tracks. You’ll never prove it was me!"
"I don't need to," I said calmly. "Your son just confessed in front of fourteen witnesses."
They dragged her out of the room, her screams echoing down the corporate hallway. Derek collapsed into his chair, sobbing uncontrollably, waiting for the agents to arrest him too.
The silence that followed was heavy. The board members stared at me, shocked and uncertain.

I took my place at the head of the table, resting my hands on the cool glass. "My father built this company on integrity. For the last three months, that integrity has been compromised. But as of this exact second, Vance Enterprises is under new management. If anyone has a problem taking orders from a soldier, the door is right there."
Nobody moved.
