Chapter 10 - The House Restored

Six months later.
The heavy black velvet wreath was long gone. In its place, the iron gates were thrown wide open, welcoming the warm Georgia spring.
The side terrace, once a site of horrific cruelty, had been completely transformed. The wire kennel had been melted down at a scrapyard. In its place was a beautiful, custom-built greenhouse filled with orchids and jasmine.
I sat at the patio table, sipping sweet tea, watching Grandma prune her prize-winning roses. She had gained her weight back. Her silver hair shone in the sunlight, and her laugh echoed through the garden just like it used to.
"Sarah!" Grandma called out, holding up a massive, perfect red rose. "Look at this one! Your father would have loved it."
"He would have," I smiled.
Thomas walked out onto the patio, handing me a leather portfolio. "The quarterly reports, Madam CEO. Vance Enterprises is up fourteen percent."
"Thank you, Thomas," I said, setting the folder down. I had officially discharged from active duty, trading my combat boots for tailored suits. I was fighting a different kind of war now, protecting the legacy my father had bled for.

It was home. And absolutely nobody would ever take it from us again.
