Chapter 6 - The Unholy Alliance

My jaw clenched as the Principal of the high school—a man entrusted with the safety of hundreds of children—locked the lab door behind him.

"Is there a problem here, Trenton?" Evans asked, his voice smooth and authoritative, completely contrasting with the criminal act he was participating in.

"Maddie here is light on the cash, Mr. Evans," Trenton laughed.

Evans sighed, looking down at Madeline with pure disgust. "Madeline, I am very disappointed. Trenton is offering you a generous way out of a scandal that would ruin your academic career. If you don't pay up, I'll have no choice but to expel you based on the... inappropriate material floating around."

"You're in on this?" Madeline asked, acting shocked. "You're the Principal!"

"I'm a man who understands how the real world works," Evans replied coldly. "Mr. Vance takes care of the school's funding. I take care of Mr. Vance's son. Now, bring the rest of the money by tomorrow, or you're out. Both of you, get out of here before the janitorial staff arrives."

In the van, Marcus hit a button, saving the recording to multiple secure cloud servers.

"We got them," Marcus said, grinning. "We got the kid, we got the Principal. It's airtight."

"Call the police," Sarah said, reaching for her phone.

"No," I stopped her, my eyes fixed on the frozen image of Principal Evans on the monitor. "If we just hand this to the cops, Richard Vance will hire a fleet of lawyers. He'll claim his son was coerced, he'll throw Evans under the bus, and he will survive. I want to cut the head off the snake. And I know exactly where to do it."
