Chapter 5 - The Siege

The trap at the penthouse worked perfectly. Marcus’s hit squad walked right into a heavily armed police raid. Half his men were arrested; the other half were put in body bags.
But Marcus was a veteran. He hadn't gone to the penthouse himself.
That night, Silas was sitting in the Lake House kitchen, watching Clara make a grilled cheese sandwich for Mila. The domestic normalcy of it was something Silas hadn't felt in decades. It felt like breathing clean air for the first time.
Then, the perimeter alarms shrieked.
Red lights bathed the kitchen in a harsh glow. Declan burst through the doors, holding an assault rifle. "Marcus found us, Boss. They tracked the GPS on Jenkins' phone before I destroyed it. We have two dozen men breaching the front gate."
Clara screamed, pulling Mila to the floor behind the granite kitchen island.
Silas didn't panic. He wheeled himself toward the central control panel on the wall. "Declan, take the east hallway. Bottleneck them."
"What about you?" Clara cried over the sound of shattered glass in the distance.
"I built this house, Clara," Silas said, his eyes glowing with a terrifying intensity. "They think a man in a wheelchair is helpless. They forgot I'm the one who designed the maze."
Silas hit a heavy red button on the panel. Heavy steel shutters slammed down over all the windows. Automated internal doors locked, separating the house into secure sectors.

Through the security monitors, Silas watched Marcus's men get trapped in the foyer like rats in a cage. Silas toggled a switch, releasing high-grade tear gas into the locked sectors.
He was the Iron Wraith. And he was defending his home.
