Chapter 4 - The Rat in the Walls

By dawn, the Chicago underworld was in utter chaos. Word had spread that Silas Thorne was not only alive, but he had financially crippled his main rival overnight.
But Silas knew money wasn't enough. He needed to break their spirit.
"Marcus is the real threat," Silas told Declan as they reviewed security footage from the hotel. "Leo is a spoiled child, but Marcus is a tactician. He knew exactly what time the perimeter guards shifted at the hotel. Someone on our payroll gave him our schedule."
Silas zoomed in on a frame of video from the hotel's loading dock. A security guard wearing a Thorne Syndicate pin was seen smoking a cigarette and handing a small envelope to one of Marcus's known associates.
"Jenkins," Declan growled, recognizing the guard. "I trained him myself."
"Bring him to the basement," Silas ordered coldly. "Don't kill him. I want his phone."
An hour later, Declan returned with Jenkins' unlocked phone. Silas scrolled through the encrypted messages. The mole had been feeding Marcus Silas's daily movements for months, waiting for the perfect time to strike.
"Send a message to Marcus from Jenkins' phone," Silas instructed. "Tell him I am moving to the downtown penthouse tonight at midnight, and that I'll be traveling with only two guards. Tell him it’s the perfect time to finish the job."

"You're baiting an ambush?" Declan asked.
"I'm baiting a slaughter," Silas corrected. "Because I won't be at the penthouse. But I'll make sure the police commissioner—who owes me his career—is waiting there with a SWAT team."
