Chapter 9 - The Fall of Moretti

The attack on the Romano family required an apocalyptic response.

The next evening, Victor didn’t send enforcers. He went himself.

Moretti was hiding in his fortified penthouse, assuming his guards could hold off the retaliation. He was wrong. Victor and Dante breached the compound with military precision. They didn’t ask questions. They didn’t negotiate.

Victor kicked open the heavy oak doors to Moretti’s office. Moretti scrambled for a gun on his desk, but Victor was faster. A single shot shattered Moretti’s knee, sending the loan shark crashing to the floor, screaming in agony.

Victor walked over slowly, standing above the pathetic man.

“You broke the rules, Lorenzo,” Victor said, his voice echoing in the opulent room. “You went after women and children.”

“You made us look weak!” Moretti spat, coughing up blood. “You broke the rules first! You let a maid turn you into a coward!”

Victor raised his weapon, aiming directly at Moretti’s chest.

“She didn’t make me a coward,” Victor said coldly. “She gave me something worth fighting for. And that makes me the most dangerous man in this city.”

He pulled the trigger.

The Moretti syndicate dissolved overnight. Victor absorbed their territories, setting a new, unbreakable law across the city: Women and children were untouchable. Extortion of the innocent was punishable by death.

The underworld bowed. Not out of fear of a tyrant, but out of absolute respect for a king.
