Chapter 7 - The Mole

While Sofia was secretly moved to a heavily guarded private clinic, Victor kept Lucia at the manor. He transformed his home office into a makeshift playroom, refusing to let the girl out of his sight.

But the underworld was a viper’s nest, and secrets always leaked.

Dante walked into the office late one night, a dark scowl on his face. He tossed a burner phone onto Victor’s desk.

“We have a rat,” Dante growled. “We caught one of our perimeter guards, Silvio, making a drop. He’s been feeding information to Moretti. Moretti knows Sofia is at the clinic. He knows Lucia is here.”

Victor’s blood ran cold. “Where is Silvio?”

“In the basement.”

Victor stood, his face a mask of lethal fury. He instructed his most trusted maid to stay with Lucia, locking the office door behind him.

In the damp, concrete basement, Silvio was tied to a chair, bleeding profusely. When Victor walked in, the traitor whimpered.

“Boss, I’m sorry! Moretti threatened my family!”

“You compromised mine,” Victor whispered, picking up a heavy steel wrench from a workbench. “What is Moretti’s plan?”

“He’s—he’s hitting the clinic tonight!” Silvio cried. “He wants the woman to force you to surrender the southside ports!”

Victor dropped the wrench. He looked at Dante.

“Send every available gun to St. Jude’s. Lock down this manor. Nobody gets in or out.”
