Chapter 8

Silas instantly snapped into a deadly focus, the vulnerable man vanishing, replaced by the apex predator.

"They sent a small team down," Silas analyzed, listening to the echoing splashes in the distance.

"Three, maybe four men. They're using night-vision."

He turned to Victor, who had drawn his heavy sidearm, ready to die defending the platform.

"Stay with the girl and the mother," Silas commanded.

"If anyone comes up these stairs, put a bullet in their face."

"What are you going to do, Boss?" Victor asked nervously.

"I am going to remind the Romanovs why they fear the dark," Silas replied coldly.

Silas drew a serrated combat knife from his boot, sliding his handgun into his waistband.

He slipped off his heavy, waterlogged trench coat, tossing it aside to move silently.

Without another word, he melted into the black water, making absolutely zero sound.

Nora pulled Lily into her lap, covering the little girl’s eyes, praying to a God she hadn't spoken to in years.

A hundred yards down the tunnel, four heavily armed hitmen waded slowly through the muck.

They swept their green-tinted laser sights across the brick walls, searching for heat signatures.

Silas clung to the rusted ceiling pipes, completely submerged in shadows, controlling his breathing.

He let the first two men pass beneath him, waiting for the perfect angle.

As the third man stepped directly underneath, Silas dropped like a stone.

He drove his knee into the man's spine while simultaneously slashing a lethal arc across his throat.

The hitman collapsed into the water without a scream, thrashing silently in the murky depths.

The splash alerted the others, and they spun around frantically.

But Silas was already gone, swallowed entirely by the pitch-black labyrinth.
