Chapter 1
CHAPTER 1: THE MAID WHO RUINED THE PERFECT WEDDING
The ballroom remained trapped in silence.
No one moved.
No one breathed.
Hundreds of eyes stared at the shattered crystal glass scattered across the marble floor.
A few moments earlier, it had been just another luxurious wedding reception.
Now it felt like the scene of a crime.
Daniel's hands trembled as he looked from the security footage to the woman standing beside him.
Emily.
His bride.
The woman he had loved for three years.
The woman he had planned to spend the rest of his life with.
And according to the footage everyone had just witnessed...
The woman who appeared to have poisoned his drink.
"Tell me this isn't real."
His voice cracked.
Emily's eyes filled with tears.
"Daniel, please..."
"Tell me."
The room felt colder.
The guests exchanged nervous glances.
Some quietly pulled out their phones.
Others looked away, uncomfortable.
The maid stood frozen near the center of the ballroom.
Her name was Sarah.
She had worked at the venue for nearly two years.
Most people barely noticed her.
Tonight, everyone was staring at her.
Daniel stepped toward Emily.
His face pale.
His heart pounding.
"Did you put something in my glass?"
Emily shook her head violently.
"No."
The answer came too fast.
Too rehearsed.
Too desperate.
Daniel looked at the phone again.
The footage clearly showed her hand.
Her face.
Her actions.
There was no mistake.
"Then explain this."
Emily's breathing became uneven.
She opened her mouth.
Closed it.
Opened it again.
Nothing came out.
The silence became unbearable.
Finally, her father rushed forward.
"This footage could be fake."
Several guests nodded.
Others disagreed.
Sarah immediately responded.
"It's from the ballroom security system."
Everyone turned toward her.
She swallowed hard.
"I copied it directly from the security office."
The manager of the venue suddenly stepped forward.
His expression serious.
"She's telling the truth."
The crowd erupted into whispers.
Daniel felt his knees weaken.
Everything around him became blurry.
The wedding decorations.
The flowers.
The music.
The guests.
All of it suddenly felt meaningless.
His entire future seemed to be collapsing before his eyes.
Then Sarah spoke again.
And what she said next changed everything.
"That's not the worst part."
The room instantly fell silent.
Daniel slowly turned toward her.
"What do you mean?"
Sarah hesitated.
Fear flashed across her face.
As if she regretted saying anything.
But then she took a deep breath.
"There was someone helping her."
The ballroom exploded with shock.
Emily's head snapped toward Sarah.
For a brief second...
Pure terror appeared in her eyes.
Daniel noticed.
And so did everyone else.
"Who?"
Sarah looked toward the back of the room.
Toward the VIP tables.
Toward the guests sitting closest to the stage.
Then she pointed.
Straight at Daniel's best man.
Michael.
The room gasped.
Michael stood up instantly.
"What?!"
His face turned white.
"You've lost your mind."
Sarah didn't lower her hand.
"I saw you."
Michael laughed nervously.
"This is insane."
But nobody else was laughing.
Not anymore.
Because Michael wasn't just Daniel's best friend.
He had known him since childhood.
They grew up together.
Started businesses together.
Shared everything.
Daniel felt sick.
"Sarah..."
His voice barely worked.
"Be careful about what you're saying."
Sarah nodded.
Then pulled another phone from her pocket.
The entire ballroom stared.
Another video.
Another recording.
Another secret.
Michael's confidence vanished.
The color drained from his face.
And for the first time that evening...
He looked afraid.
Very afraid.
Sarah pressed play.
The video showed a hallway behind the ballroom.
A hidden corner.
Away from the guests.
Away from the cameras most people knew about.
Emily stood there.
Michael stood beside her.
The timestamp showed only thirty minutes before the ceremony.
The audio wasn't perfect.
But it was clear enough.
Everyone heard Michael say:
"After tonight, everything belongs to us."
A collective gasp filled the room.
Daniel stopped breathing.
Then Emily's voice appeared on the recording.
"What if he finds out?"
Michael laughed.
"He won't."
The ballroom exploded.
Guests began standing.
Shouting.
Whispering.
Recording.
Some looked horrified.
Others fascinated.
Daniel felt as if someone had stabbed him.
Everything suddenly made sense.
The late-night phone calls.
The secret meetings.
The strange excuses.
The growing distance.
The lies.
The betrayal.
Not only had he nearly been poisoned.
His fiancée had apparently been having an affair.
With his best friend.
Sarah stopped the video.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody needed to.
The evidence spoke for itself.
Daniel slowly looked at Michael.
The man couldn't even meet his eyes.
Years of friendship.
Gone.
Destroyed in a single evening.
Then something unexpected happened.
Emily suddenly screamed.
"YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!"
Everyone jumped.
Tears streamed down her face.
Her makeup began running.
"You don't know what really happened."
Daniel stared at her.
For a moment...
He almost wanted to believe her.
Almost.
Then she pointed directly at Sarah.
And shouted words that shocked the entire room.
"She's the reason all of this happened."
The ballroom froze once again.
Sarah looked stunned.
"What?"
Emily's eyes burned with anger.
"You think she's a hero?"
The guests exchanged confused looks.
Daniel frowned.
"What are you talking about?"
Emily laughed.
A broken, desperate laugh.
Then she revealed a secret nobody saw coming.
"Ask her who she really is."
Sarah's face instantly changed.
A flash of panic.
Only a second.
But everyone noticed.
Daniel's stomach dropped.
"What does that mean?"
Emily smiled bitterly.
And spoke slowly.
Clearly.
Loud enough for every guest to hear.
"Her real name isn't Sarah."
Silence.
Absolute silence.
The maid stood motionless.
The color disappeared from her face.
Daniel felt a chill crawl down his spine.
Because suddenly...
The woman who had just saved his life looked terrified.
And for the first time that night...
Everyone wondered whether the maid had secrets of her own.
Secrets powerful enough to destroy everyone in that ballroom.
Including herself.
To be continued...
