Chapter 14 - Blood on the Satin

We arrived at a highly secure underground bunker disguised as a commercial warehouse. Luca’s medical team was already waiting, alerted by the driver.

I paced the concrete hallway, my blood-red gown now stained with actual blood—Luca's blood. My hands were shaking violently.

An hour later, the underground doctor emerged, wiping his hands on a towel. “He’s stitched up. The bullet went clean through the deltoid. Missed the bone. He’s asking for you, Mrs. Morretti.”

I burst into the medical room. Luca was sitting on the edge of the cot, bare-chested, his shoulder wrapped in thick white bandages. He looked pale, but his dark eyes were sharp and incredibly focused.

“Seraphina,” he breathed, holding out his good hand.

I ran to him, falling to my knees between his legs, burying my face in his uninjured side. “You stupid, reckless man,” I sobbed, hitting his thigh weakly. “You jumped over me. You took a bullet for me.”

Luca cupped my face, lifting my tear-stained cheeks. “I would take a thousand bullets for you. I would burn the world down before I let a single piece of glass touch you.”

“I was so scared,” I cried, the adrenaline finally breaking me down.

Luca leaned down, capturing my lips in a fierce, desperate kiss. It wasn't gentle. It was possessive, bruising, a physical confirmation that we were both still alive. I kissed him back with equal ferocity, my fingers tangling in his dark hair, being careful not to press on his injured shoulder.

“I love you,” I gasped against his mouth, the truth tearing out of my soul. “I love you, Luca.”

Luca froze. He looked down at me, his eyes shining with something wet and raw. “Say it again.”

May you like

“I love you.”

Luca pulled me into his lap, ignoring the pain in his shoulder, burying his face in my neck. “And I worship you, Seraphina. You are my soul.”
