Chapter 3 - The Labyrinth

"Move!" Lorenzo roared, grabbing Sofia’s shoulder and pulling her toward the master bathroom.

Bullets chewed through the drywall behind them as Julian provided covering fire for the men rushing up the stairs. Lorenzo slammed the heavy mahogany bathroom doors shut and locked them. It wouldn't hold them for more than a minute.

"We're trapped," Sofia said, her chest heaving as she reloaded her weapon. "There are no windows in here."

"I built this house," Lorenzo said, his voice eerily calm as he walked toward the massive walk-in shower. "I didn't survive twenty-five years at the top by cornering myself."

He pressed his thumb against the center of a specific ceramic tile on the shower wall. A biometric scanner, disguised seamlessly as the grout, flashed green. A heavy hydraulic hiss echoed off the marble, and the entire back wall of the shower swung inward, revealing a pitch-black corridor.

Sofia raised an eyebrow. "A panic room?"

"A nerve center," Lorenzo corrected, stepping into the dark. "Close it."

As the false wall sealed shut behind them, the sound of the bathroom doors being kicked down reverberated faintly. Julian was screaming curses on the other side, but they were already gone.

The hidden corridor led down a narrow flight of concrete stairs, descending deep into the bedrock beneath the estate. At the bottom, Lorenzo punched a code into a keypad. A heavy steel door slid open, revealing a room bathed in the glow of dozens of high-definition monitors.

The screens displayed every single inch of the property. Hidden cameras Julian’s men hadn't found. Thermal imaging in the gardens. Audio feeds in every room.

The walls were lined with custom weaponry, stacks of untraceable currency, and forged passports.

"He thinks he took my castle," Lorenzo said, walking over to the main console and flipping a switch. "He doesn't realize he just locked himself in my cage."

On the monitors, Julian was pacing frantically in the bedroom, kicking a chair across the room. He was holding a radio.

"Tear the walls down!" Julian screamed through the audio feed. "He didn't just vanish! Find the switch!"

Lorenzo typed a command into the keyboard. "Let's make them sweat."
