Chapter 6 - The Evidence

The grand hall erupted into absolute chaos as the elegant, untouchable Caroline Vance was violently handcuffed on the floor.
Guests gasped and whispered, pulling out their phones to record the shocking downfall of the prominent socialite.
Caroline screamed obscenities, completely abandoning her refined persona as the police hauled her to her feet.
The lead detective carefully unclipped the silver owl from the zipper of the confiscated designer bag.
He examined it closely, finding a tiny, hidden mechanism that popped the owl open, revealing a highly sophisticated magnetic key.
"We are going to search that closet right now," the detective announced to his team.
Julian walked back through the front doors just as Caroline was being dragged out by the officers.
He stopped dead in his tracks, watching his sister-in-law thrash and curse like a wild animal.
"What the hell is going on?" Julian demanded, rushing over to Elena.
"Leo told me about a hidden safe," Elena explained quickly, grabbing Julian’s hand.
"The police are going upstairs to open it right now."
Julian didn't hesitate; he grabbed Elena’s hand tightly, and they followed the detectives up the grand staircase.
They bypassed the bloody study and entered the massive, luxurious master suite at the end of the hall.
The detectives tore through the expansive walk-in closet, pushing aside racks of designer gowns and shelves of expensive shoes.
Beneath a false floorboard in the very back corner, they found a heavy, black steel lockbox bolted directly to the foundation.
The detective inserted the magnetic silver owl into the hidden slot, and the heavy lid clicked open with a satisfying thud.
Inside the box were stacks of offshore bank statements, forged company ledgers, and a collection of burner phones.
Julian picked up one of the ledgers, his eyes quickly scanning the columns of numbers.
His face turned incredibly pale as he realized the sheer magnitude of the betrayal.
"She has been embezzling millions of dollars from Vance Corporation for the last five years," Julian whispered in absolute disbelief.
"She was funneling the money into private accounts in the Cayman Islands."
"Arthur must have finally caught her tonight," Elena realized softly, the pieces of the puzzle snapping into place.

"He confronted her, told her he was going to expose her and take Leo away."
"And she decided it was cheaper to murder him than to face a divorce and prison," Julian finished, his voice heavy with disgust.
