Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

The private jet landed in Veracruz just as the morning sun painted the sky in streaks of blood red.

Mateo and Elena rode in a heavily armored convoy straight to Dr. Arturo’s private clinic.

They bypassed the terrified receptionist, flanked by six armed guards who locked the front doors.

Dr. Arturo was in his luxury office, packing a suitcase in a blind panic.

When Mateo kicked the door open, the doctor dropped the suitcase, his face draining of all color.

"Mr. Delgado," he stammered, raising his trembling hands.

"Please, let me explain."

Mateo didn't say a word; he simply stepped aside so Elena could walk into the room.

When the doctor saw her, his knees buckled.

"You," he gasped.

Elena walked slowly toward the desk, her posture straight, channeling all of Mateo's commanding presence.

"Yes, me," Elena said, her voice ringing like a steel bell.

"The woman you told to accept God's will."

She picked up a heavy marble paperweight from his desk and slammed it down, cracking the glass surface.

"You sold my daughter to a wealthy family so you could pay off your gambling debts."

"You handed me an empty box and left me to die of a broken heart."

The doctor fell to his knees, sobbing and begging for mercy.

"Valeria made me do it!" he cried.

"She offered me two million dollars!"

Mateo stepped forward, holding up a small digital recorder.

"That confession is all I needed," Mateo said coldly.

"The police are waiting outside, Doctor."

Elena walked out of the office without looking back, feeling three years of suffocating grief finally lift from her shoulders.
