Chapter 5 - The DNA Results

The tension inside the private laboratory of the Sterling estate was thick enough to cut with a knife.

Dr. Evans, a trusted family physician for over three decades, held a sealed white envelope in his hands.

Arthur sat in a leather chair across from him, tapping his cane impatiently against the hardwood floor.

"Read it, Doctor," Arthur commanded, his voice echoing in the sterile room.

"I need to hear the official confirmation."

Dr. Evans carefully tore open the envelope and pulled out the official DNA report.

He adjusted his glasses and scanned the complex genetic markers printed on the page.

A wide, genuine smile slowly spread across the doctor's tired face.

"Probability of biological relationship is ninety-nine point nine percent," Dr. Evans announced happily.

"Congratulations, Arthur, she is absolutely your granddaughter."

Arthur let out a breath he felt like he had been holding for twenty-five long years.

A single tear rolled down his cheek, but this time, it was a tear of pure, unadulterated joy.

"Thank God," Arthur whispered, looking up at the ceiling.

"I finally have a piece of my Sarah back."

He stood up, grabbing his silver-handled cane with renewed strength.

"I want a press conference arranged immediately, Dr. Evans," Arthur instructed firmly.

"I am going to announce Lily as the sole heir to the entire Sterling empire."

Dr. Evans nodded, but a look of deep concern crossed his features.

"Arthur, are you sure it is wise to do this so quickly?" the doctor warned gently.

"Eleanor still has a lot of powerful friends on the board, and she will not take this news lightly."

"I do not care about Eleanor's friends," Arthur growled, his eyes flashing with a dangerous fire.

"I have my private investigators pulling every financial record that snake has ever touched."

"By the time I am finished with her, she will be begging to live on the streets."

Meanwhile, on the other side of the city, Eleanor was already putting her dark plan into motion.

She sat in the back of a dark SUV, handing a thick manila envelope full of cash to Marcus.

Marcus counted the hundred-dollar bills quickly, a wicked grin spreading across his scarred face.

"This is half the payment," Eleanor said coldly, crossing her arms.

"You get the other half when the little brat is permanently removed from the picture."

"The old man is hosting a massive press conference tomorrow afternoon at the estate," Marcus noted, looking at a stolen security schedule.

"The gates will be open for the media, and security will be focused on the front entrance."

"Exactly," Eleanor agreed, her eyes gleaming with absolute malice.

"It will be the perfect distraction for you to slip through the service entrance and get to the girl's room."

"What do you want me to do with her?" Marcus asked casually.

Eleanor stared out the tinted window, her heart as black as coal.

"Make it look like a tragic accident," Eleanor ordered without a single ounce of hesitation.

"A slip down the grand staircase, or a fall from the balcony."

"Just make sure Arthur Sterling watches his precious legacy die right in front of his eyes."

Marcus nodded, stuffing the envelope of cash into his heavy leather jacket.

The trap was fully set, and the final battle for the Sterling fortune was about to explode.
