Chapter 7 - The Arrest

Rebecca stumbled backward, rubbing her wrist and glaring at me with absolute, murderous hatred.

"You think a recording changes anything?" she spat, desperately trying to regain control of the situation.

"I have a court order signed by a judge, and the police will enforce it regardless of what you recorded."

She reached into her designer purse and pulled out her cell phone, quickly dialing 911 right in front of the police station.

"Yes, I need immediate assistance," she cried into the phone, faking tears of absolute terror.

"My mentally unstable ward has been kidnapped by his sister, and they are threatening me outside the downtown precinct."

Within thirty seconds, three uniformed officers burst through the front doors of the station, their hands resting cautiously on their weapons.

"Drop the phone and step away from each other!" the lead officer barked, assessing the chaotic scene.

Rebecca immediately fell to her knees, sobbing dramatically and pointing a trembling finger at me.

"She kidnapped him! She kidnapped my poor, sick son!" Rebecca wailed, playing the victim with terrifying perfection.

"Ma'am, I am his sister, and he is eighteen years old," I told the officer calmly, keeping my hands clearly visible.

"He is under a strict medical guardianship," Rebecca interrupted, frantically waving the signed order in the air.

"He is suffering a psychotic break, and she took him away from his medication!"

The lead officer took the envelope from her hand, scanning the official seal and the judge's signature.

He looked at Ethan with a mixture of suspicion and pity.

"Son, is this your legal guardian?" the officer asked sternly.

"Yes, sir, she is," Ethan replied steadily, not breaking eye contact with the policeman.

"But the order was obtained through perjury, and we came here to report a massive financial fraud."

Ethan handed his phone directly to the officer and pressed the play button on the screen.

The crisp, clear audio of Rebecca's entire confession echoed across the silent parking lot.

Every single word of her admitting to stealing the money, insulting my father, and threatening to commit Ethan to a facility was broadcast loudly.

The officer's expression slowly hardened as he listened to the recording.

He handed the phone back to Ethan and turned his gaze directly onto Rebecca, who had suddenly stopped her fake crying.

"Ma'am, please place your hands behind your back," the officer commanded coldly.

"What?" Rebecca gasped, her face turning chalk white. "I am the victim here!"

"You are under arrest for suspicion of grand larceny, identity theft, and filing a false police report," he announced, pulling a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his belt.

As the cold metal clicked tightly around her wrists, the illusion of her invincibility completely shattered.
