Chapter 4 - The Grandfather's Will

Thomas led us into a private consultation room, locking the door behind us.

"Your grandfather, Arthur Vance, didn't leave his massive estate to your mother, Marcus," Thomas explained, opening his briefcase and pulling out a thick, leather-bound document. "Eleanor only receives a small stipend. The real fortune—over eighty million dollars, the properties, the company shares—was placed in an ironclad, generational trust."

Marcus frowned. "I know that. The trust passes to the next generation."

"No," Thomas corrected. "It passes specifically to the firstborn biological grandson of the Vance bloodline upon his fifth birthday. That is Leo. Next week, Leo turns five. On that day, the trust activates in his name, and as his parents, you and your wife gain full conservatorship over the eighty million until he turns eighteen."

The puzzle pieces violently slammed into place.

"But," Thomas continued, his voice heavy. "If Leo were somehow proven not to be of the Vance bloodline... or if he were to tragically pass away before his fifth birthday... the trust defaults to the secondary beneficiary."

"My brother's son," Marcus whispered, the color draining from his face. "Eleanor's favorite grandchild."

"Exactly," Thomas nodded. "Four years ago, your mother tried to use a forged DNA test to legally disinherit Leo. When I told her a privately uploaded hospital document wouldn't hold up in probate court without a court-ordered blood test, she realized her forgery wasn't enough."

"So she decided to poison him," I choked out, a wave of intense nausea washing over me. "She poisoned my baby to stop him from turning five."
