Chapter 7 - The Desperate Ploy

Victoria Sterling was not a woman who lost gracefully. Cornered, facing financial ruin and prison time, she resorted to the one thing she knew best: dirty tactics.

On Saturday night, my security systems at the penthouse tripped. My AI grid isolated the threat instantly. A team of highly paid private mercenaries had attempted to breach the service elevator of my building, armed with zip-ties and sedatives. Their target was obvious: my sons.

Victoria thought if she could take the boys, she could force me to sign back the company and drop the charges.

She was a fool.

My security detail neutralized the threat before they even reached the lobby. The mercenaries were pinned to the marble floor, completely outmatched. When the police arrived, they found a secure digital trail connecting the mercenaries directly to a burner phone purchased by Victoria’s personal assistant.

I didn't even wake the boys. They slept peacefully in their custom race-car beds, completely safe.

I stood on my balcony, watching the flashing red and blue lights of the police cruisers down below, a cold satisfaction settling in my chest. Checkmate.
