Chapter 4 - The Offensive Play

By Monday morning, the scandal had broken across every major news network and social media platform. #SterlingScandal and #BillionaireTriplets were trending globally. The narrative was perfect: the cruel, old-money elite humiliated by the self-made, brilliant single mother.

I was in my glass-walled corner office in Manhattan, overseeing operations, when my assistant, Sarah, walked in with a smirk.

"The Sterling stock is plummeting, Clara," she reported, handing me an iPad. "Governor Kensington just gave a press conference calling the Sterlings 'morally bankrupt.' Investors are pulling out in droves."

"And Victoria’s move?" I asked without looking up from my monitors.

"She filed for an emergency custody injunction at 8:00 AM. Claiming you are an unfit mother and kidnapped Sterling heirs."

I smiled. It was a predatory smile. Victoria was predictable. "Execute Protocol Icarus."

Protocol Icarus was a contingency I had planned for years. While I was building my empire, I had also been quietly buying up the debts of the Sterling family's failing real estate ventures through shell companies. They were over-leveraged, surviving only on their name and reputation. Now that their reputation was in tatters, the banks were calling in their loans.

By noon, my legal team had filed a counter-suit not only for full, uncontested custody, but we also submitted a mountain of evidence detailing Victoria’s illegal offshore tax evasion—documents my AI algorithms had easily traced through public financial records.

When Victoria threatened my children, she didn't realize she was bringing a knife to a nuclear launch.
