Chapter 5 - The Trap is Sprung

Emily hesitated for only a fraction of a second before agreeing to come back with me.

She adamantly refused to discuss a salary or accept any immediate financial compensation for her heroic actions.

She hurriedly packed a small, worn duffel bag and rode with me back to the hospital in heavy, contemplative silence.

When we finally walked into the secure ICU wing, Zion was miraculously awake, his vital monitors beeping in a steady, reassuring rhythm.

The very moment his sleepy eyes found Emily, a weak but breathtakingly beautiful smile spread across his tiny, exhausted face.

Emily rushed straight to the side of the metal crib, fresh tears streaming down her face as she gently grasped his tiny hand.

Watching the two of them together, a fierce, dark, and highly protective fire fully ignited within my soul.

I was going to relentlessly destroy whoever dared to orchestrate this attack on my fractured family.

My private phone aggressively vibrated in my pocket with an urgent encrypted message from my head of security.

They had successfully tracked Margaret's unregistered black sedan to a secluded, private airfield just outside the city limits.

She was actively attempting to flee the country on an untraceable charter flight.

"Stay here and keep Zion safe," I told Emily, my voice suddenly devoid of all warmth and emotion.

"I have a desperate rat to catch before she leaves my jurisdiction."

I arrived at the desolate airfield just as Margaret was confidently walking up the metal stairs to board the sleek private jet.

My elite security team instantly swarmed the dark tarmac, aggressively cutting off the plane's path with our heavy, armored SUVs.

Margaret stopped dead in her tracks, her arrogant face turning as pale as a ghost when she saw me stepping out of the lead vehicle.

"Going somewhere so soon, Margaret?" I asked smoothly, pulling out the recovered glass vial we had fished from the nursery trash.

May you like

She looked at the vial, then at the dozen armed men surrounding her, and realized her reign of terror was officially over.

There was nowhere left for her to run.
