Chapter 2 - The Silent Witness

I rushed back to the mansion the very second Zion was securely moved to the pediatric intensive care unit.
My massive, sprawling home, once a glorious symbol of my unmatched success, now felt like a contaminated crime scene.
I stormed directly into the security control room, shoving my highly trained guards aside to get to the primary monitors.
"Pull up the interior cameras for the nursery immediately," I barked at the lead technician.
"I want you to go back exactly one hour before I arrived home this afternoon."
The technician frantically typed on his illuminated keyboard, bringing up the high-definition footage on the main screen.
There she was on the screen.
Margaret, the strict, highly recommended, elite nanny I had paid a small fortune to trust.
She was leaning heavily over Zion's expensive wooden crib, her face entirely devoid of any human emotion.
I watched her pull a small, unmarked glass vial from the deep pocket of her starched white apron.
Pure horror paralyzed my body as I watched her rub a thick, clear gel directly onto my crying son's chest.
Zion's helpless cries grew visibly louder on the silent monitor, his tiny face turning bright red in obvious distress.
Margaret did not attempt to soothe him or rock him to sleep.
She simply smirked, turned sharply on her heel, and walked out the door without a backward glance.
Less than two minutes later, Emily hurried into the frame, awkwardly balancing a heavy basket of clean laundry.
She saw Zion violently thrashing in his crib and instantly dropped the basket to the floor.
The audio was muffled, but I could clearly see Emily meticulously inspecting his irritated skin.
She noticed the strange, glistening gel immediately.
She sniffed her fingertips, recoiled in absolute disgust, and scooped Zion into her protective arms without a second thought.
She did not waste precious time drawing a proper, temperature-controlled bath upstairs.
She ran straight down the hallway to the nearest available water source, which happened to be the kitchen sink.
She knew instinctively that whatever was on his skin needed to come off immediately.
I felt physically sick to my stomach, a wave of nauseating guilt washing over me.
I had ruthlessly punished an innocent, desperate girl for being the only person in this massive house who possessed a conscience.
My wealth and arrogance had completely blinded me to basic human decency.
"Find her," I commanded my security team, my voice cracking under the weight of my regret.
May you like
"I do not care what it costs or how many men you have to deploy."
"Find Emily right now and bring me her exact location."
