Chapter 10 - Absolute Peace

The sun was setting, casting a warm, golden glow across the penthouse living room.
I sat on the plush, custom-made sofa, watching Aurora take clumsy, determined steps across the soft carpet.
She giggled loudly, falling onto a pile of pillows, completely safe and fiercely loved.
I held a glass of sparkling cider, savoring the absolute peace that filled my home.
There were no more lies, no more hiding, and no more shrinking myself to make insecure people feel powerful.
The television was playing softly in the background.
A local news anchor was reporting on a massive charitable foundation I had just launched to support single mothers escaping abusive relationships.
"The Vanguard Foundation has pledged fifty million dollars to domestic shelters," the anchor announced.
I smiled, taking a sip of my drink.
Every dollar I had taken back from Brendan’s fraudulent accounts was now going toward helping women realize their own power.
The door chimed softly, and my personal chef walked in with a tray of fresh, warm pastries.
"Everything alright, Ms. Cassidy?" he asked kindly.
"Everything is absolutely perfect," I replied, pulling Aurora onto my lap and hugging her tightly.
I looked out at the glowing city skyline.
I had built this empire from the ground up, survived the worst betrayal imaginable, and come out stronger than ever.
The storm they tried to drown me in was exactly what I needed to wash away the past.

Now, there was only the future.
And it belonged entirely to us.
