Chapter 7 - The Federal Hammer

Just as the men prepared to push Richard into the freezing, black waters of the harbor, the sky exploded.

A blinding spotlight cut through the darkness, pinning Yuri and his men against the shipping containers. The deafening roar of a helicopter’s rotors filled the air.

“FBI! DROP YOUR WEAPONS! YOU ARE SURROUNDED!” a voice boomed over a megaphone.

More than thirty heavily armed federal agents swarmed the pier from every direction, tactical laser sights painting the chests of the Russian mobsters.

Yuri’s men didn't even try to fight. They dropped their rifles and fell to their knees.

I smiled in the darkness. Jax had come through. When I sent the evidence of Richard’s forgery to the FBI, I also sent the GPS coordinates for the meetup.

I didn't need to kill Yuri Volkov, and I certainly wasn't going to let him execute Richard. Death was too easy for my stepfather. I wanted him to rot in a concrete box for the rest of his natural life.

As the FBI agents placed Yuri and Richard in handcuffs, a familiar figure stepped out of the command vehicle.

Agent Marcus Vance. My former commanding officer at the DIA, now operating a joint task force with the Bureau.

He looked around the shipyard, his eyes scanning the tops of the shipping containers. He knew exactly where I was.

He didn't shine his flashlight up at me. He just gave a slow, deliberate nod of respect.

I tapped my fingers against my tactical vest in a silent salute, turned around, and vanished into the night.
