Chapter 7 - The Final Offer

Preston, cornered and desperate, lunged across the table. "You bitch! I'll destroy you! I'll tie this up in litigation for decades!"

"No, you won't," Sable said, signaling her lead attorney. The lawyer handed Preston a thick, heavily sealed envelope.

"Inside that envelope is every piece of evidence regarding your embezzlement, tax fraud, and wire fraud," Sable explained. "If you fight me on this buyout, those files go to the DOJ, and you will die in federal prison."

Preston’s hands shook as he opened the envelope, scanning the first page. His bravado vanished, replaced by the stark terror of a man realizing he had entirely lost.

"What do you want?" Preston rasped, sounding twenty years older.

"Everything," Sable said. "You and Weston will sign over your remaining shares of Callaway Holdings to Vanguard Acquisitions for one dollar. You will vacate your offices by 5:00 PM today. You will surrender all company assets, vehicles, and real estate tied to the corporate umbrella—which, thanks to your creative accounting, includes the family mansion."

Weston looked up, tears streaming down his face. "Sable, please. I have nothing. What about Mara? Let me see my daughter. I want to be a father to her."

The temperature in the room seemed to drop ten degrees. Sable stood up, towering over him in spirit if not in height.

"Do not ever speak her name," Sable hissed, her voice a lethal weapon. "You forfeited the right to be her father the moment you refused to put your name on her birth certificate. She doesn't know who you are, and she never will."

"She needs a father!" Weston begged.

"She has everything she needs. She has security, she has love, and she has a mother who didn't flinch when the world tried to crush her," Sable said. She slid a pen across the mahogany table toward Weston.

"Sign the papers, Weston. Or the DOJ gets the files, and you can explain to your cellmate how you lost your empire to the woman you abandoned."
