Chapter 6 - The Social Media Smear
Before Julian could act on the recording, his phone blew up again. This time, it was from friends and colleagues.
Sarah had gone nuclear on Facebook and Instagram.
She posted the "perfect" family photo from the night before—everyone in their tartans, smiling brilliantly next to the tree. But it was the caption that made Julian see red.
“Heartbroken this holiday season. Mental health is a serious struggle, and sometimes, those we love push us away when we try to help. We are praying for my brother Julian, who had a terrible episode last night and took our sweet niece away before we could give her her presents. Family is everything, even when it’s hard. Please send prayers for his healing.”
The post already had hundreds of comments. High society friends, local politicians, and extended family were all sending their "condolences," praising Sarah for her grace and expressing concern over Julian's "instability."
She was painting him as an unhinged, dangerous father to justify his sudden exit and protect her own image. She was laying the groundwork to make him look like an unfit parent.

He didn't reply to the post. He didn't defend himself in the comments. He simply sent the audio file from Mia’s iPad to Marcus with a single text: Get ready for New Year's Eve.
