Chapter 6 - The Cornered Beast

Eleanor Sterling let out a terrified scream, stumbling backward into the elevator car as she recognized the man standing forty feet away. "You! How did you get down here?! Security! Call security!"

"There is no security, Eleanor," Thomas said, his voice echoing off the low concrete ceiling with chilling clarity. "Your security detail clocked out ten minutes ago. Your police chief is currently shredding files in his basement. And your District Attorney is sitting in his office waiting for the FBI to kick his door in."

Julian backed away from his reserved armored sedan, his eyes darting frantically around the garage for an exit. "Look, Thomas! Let’s be reasonable here!" he stammered, raising his hands in a desperate placating gesture, his arrogance entirely replaced by raw, primal cowardice. "This is about Clara, right? I was out of line! I had too much to drink! I’ll pay her! I’ll transfer fifty million dollars into an offshore account in her name by tomorrow morning! You both can retire anywhere in the world!"

Thomas didn't stop walking. His measured, steady paces closed the distance between them with relentless precision. "You think you can buy your way out of putting your hands on my daughter?"

"A hundred million!" Julian shrieked, pressing his back against the concrete pillar, his chest heaving as tears of panic finally spilled over his lower eyelids. "I’ll give you everything in my personal trust! I’ll sign over the real estate! Just let us get in the car and walk away! Please, Thomas! I’m begging you!"

"You didn't listen when she begged you to stop, Julian," Thomas said, stopping five paces away from him.

Thomas reached into his tactical vest and pulled out a small, heavy digital recorder. He tossed it onto the hood of Julian’s armored sedan, where it landed with a sharp metallic clatter. The red recording LED was blinking steadily.

"What... what is that?" Julian whispered, his eyes locked onto the device.

"That is a direct, encrypted audio feed to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District," Thomas replied coldly. "You have exactly sixty seconds to confess on that recording to every domestic assault you committed against my daughter, every bribe you paid to cover it up, and every dollar you stole from your corporate investors. If you leave out a single detail, I won't let the federal marshals take you."

Julian stared at the recorder, his jaw trembling. He looked at Thomas’s eyes—eyes that held no anger, no rage, only the terrifying, absolute certainty of a man who had already decided his fate.

"I... I did it," Julian sobbed, collapsing onto his knees on the cold, oil-stained concrete, his face burying in his hands. "I hit her! I hit Clara because she wanted to leave me! I bribed Judge Henderson to bury the restraining order last year! I paid D.A. Hayes two hundred thousand dollars from the corporate pension fund to ignore the police reports! I did it! I did all of it!"

Behind him in the elevator, Eleanor slumped against the brass handrail, weeping hysterically as her golden son dismantled their entire generational legacy into a live federal microphone.

Thomas stepped forward, picked up the recorder, and hit the transmission toggle.

"Directive Zero complete," Thomas spoke into the device. "Target neutralized. Send the cleanup crews."
