Chapter 10 - The Vault of Secrets

The interior of the Banque Privée Suisse looked more like an art museum than a financial institution. Marble floors, silent, serious guards in tailored suits, and a chillingly quiet atmosphere. I approached the front desk and presented the brass key.

The banker’s eyes widened slightly. He immediately stood up and bowed. "Right this way, Monsieur. We have been expecting you."

I was escorted into a private elevator that descended deep beneath the Swiss streets. The doors opened to a massive, circular vault room. The banker inserted a master key, and I inserted Grandpa Arthur’s brass key. The heavy steel door hissed open, revealing a private room filled with rows of safety deposit boxes.

Box 404.

I pulled it open. Inside, there were stacks of bearer bonds—untraceable, physical wealth worth billions. But I ignored them. My eyes immediately found a black, encrypted hard drive and a sealed envelope with my name on it.

I tore open the envelope. It was a handwritten letter from my grandfather.

“Elias. If you are reading this, I am gone, and you have passed the final test. I am sorry to burden you with this war, but you are the only one with the strength to finish it. Robert and Eleanor have sold our family’s legacy to the Volkov Syndicate. Inside this hard drive are the offshore account numbers they used, the blackmail footage of my poisoning, and the legal documents transferring 51% of Sterling Industries to you. You are the majority shareholder now. The company is yours. Do not let them destroy it. Be ruthless, my boy. For the first time in your life, strike back.”

I clenched my jaw, folding the letter into my pocket.

I took the hard drive to a private viewing terminal in the corner of the room. I plugged it in and clicked on a video file titled The Confession.

The screen flickered to life. It was black-and-white security footage from Grandpa's study. I watched, sick to my stomach, as my Uncle Robert and my mother, Eleanor, stood by Grandpa’s desk.

"He's writing us out, Eleanor," Robert hissed in the video. "The syndicate will kill us both if we don't deliver the company by Friday."

"Then we accelerate the timeline," my mother replied, her voice cold and devoid of any humanity. She pulled a small vial from her purse. "Put this in his scotch. The coroner will rule it a heart attack. He’s old. No one will ask questions."

I slammed the laptop shut, tears of pure rage burning my eyes. They were going to pay.
