Chapter 8 - The Foundation

With the toxicity completely excised from my life, I finally had the space to properly mourn my mother. But I didn't want to mourn her with tears; I wanted to honor her with action.

I sat down with the Trust managers and laid out a new plan.

My mother had been a pediatric oncology nurse. She had spent her life watching families get torn apart not just by disease, but by the crushing financial weight of medical bills.

I used the generous monthly stipends from the Trust to establish a non-profit foundation in her name: The Clara Foundation.

We provided financial grants to single mothers whose children were battling cancer, covering rent, groceries, and travel expenses so they could focus on what truly mattered—being with their kids.

Within a year, the foundation was thriving. I threw myself into the work, finding a sense of purpose and joy that I hadn't felt since I was a child. My mother’s legacy wasn't going to be the money itself; it was going to be the lives the money saved.
