Chapter 4 - The Hunter Becomes the Hunted

At the Vance family mansion, panic had set in. The power had been restored, but the illusion of their absolute control was permanently shattered.
Marcus sat at the dining table, pressing an ice pack to his bruised chest where Gabriel’s boot had connected. Barbara was pacing the floor, her manicured nails biting into her palms, while Arthur nursed a fractured wrist in a temporary splint.
"We need to spin this right now!" Barbara snapped, glaring at Marcus. "If word gets out to the country club that she left you, we'll be laughingstocks! Go to the press. Say she had a psychotic breakdown from the pregnancy and ran off with a violent criminal!"
"I already talked to Chief Higgins!" Marcus barked, slamming his fist on the table. "He said federal agents took over the jurisdiction an hour ago! Someone overrode the local police!"
Lucas sat in the corner, staring at his phone with a pale, ghost-like face. "Uh... Marcus?"
"What is it, Lucas?! Can't you see we're dealing with a crisis?!"
"My... my cloud accounts are locked out," Lucas stammered, swallowing hard. "And my fraternity brothers just texted me. Someone emailed the video of what we did this morning to the dean of the university. I've... I've just been expelled."
"You did WHAT?!" Arthur roared, lunging toward his youngest son with his good arm. "You recorded it?!"
Before the family could erupt into a physical brawl, Marcus’s laptop dinged with a high-priority email notification. It was from the board of directors at Vanguard Financial, the elite investment firm where Marcus worked as a senior vice president.
