Chapter 7 - The Viral Truth

The teenager, a kid named Tyler, didn't just give the video to the police. He posted it on his local TikTok account.

Within twenty-four hours, the video had exploded across Grand Rapids.

It was undeniable. In high-definition, everyone saw the golden boy, the "heartbroken husband," aggressively grab his wife in a public place. They heard his dark, threatening tone. They saw the sheer terror in my eyes.

The tide turned violently and immediately.

The Facebook post where he played the victim was flooded with screenshots from the video. The PTA moms who had offered him casseroles deleted their comments. By Thursday afternoon, Diane called me with an update that made my knees weak.

"Marcus’s firm just let him go," Diane said, her voice crisp with satisfaction. "They have a strict morality clause, and a viral video of one of their senior executives assaulting his wife in a grocery store violates it."

I sat on Claire’s sofa, staring out the window. For years, I had believed Marcus was an untouchable god in our small universe. But he wasn't a god. He was just a bully, and the light of day was burning him alive.
