Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Coup

I walked into the glass-walled boardroom of Vance Enterprises. The room was packed with the board members, shareholders, and my father sitting at the head of the long oak table, looking like an emperor.
"Julian," Arthur said coldly. "Take a seat."
I remained standing. "What is this, Arthur?"
"This is an intervention," my father announced to the room. "Over the past month, our CEO has been distracted by a sudden... personal charity project. His behavior is erratic. Therefore, the board has taken a vote of no confidence. You are being removed as CEO, Julian. Effective immediately."
Murmurs rippled through the room. They were trying to oust me so Arthur could regain total control and bury me legally.
I laughed. It was a cold, hard sound.
"You think this is about a charity project?" I asked, dropping my heavy leather briefcase onto the table. "No. This is about a cleanup."

I unlatched the briefcase and pulled out the Sterling ledgers.
"Gentlemen," I addressed the board. "My father is right about one thing. I am stepping down. But before I do, I think you should all see the foundational documents of Vance Enterprises."
