Chapter 10 - The New Empire

One year later.

The coastal estate in Maine was bathed in the warm, golden light of a summer afternoon.

The heavy, oppressive silence that had once defined the manor was completely gone.

In its place was the joyous, ringing sound of a toddler's laughter echoing across the manicured lawns.

Dante was a robust, energetic one-year-old, currently attempting to outrun a massive, gentle Mastiff puppy.

Clara stood on the stone patio, smiling brightly as she watched the boy she loved like her own flesh and blood.

She was no longer the broken, desperate maid in a starched uniform.

She wore a flowing summer dress, a diamond ring catching the sunlight on her left hand.

Vincenzo stepped out onto the patio behind her, wrapping his strong arms around her waist and pulling her close.

He rested his chin on her shoulder, completely at peace as he watched his healthy son tumble onto the grass in a fit of giggles.

"He has entirely too much energy," Vincenzo chuckled, kissing the side of Clara's neck.

"He gets that from his father," Clara teased, leaning back into his solid warmth.

Vincenzo turned her gently in his arms, his dark eyes filled with absolute adoration.

He placed his hand softly over her slightly rounded stomach, feeling the tiny flutter of the new life growing inside her.

They had both lost pieces of their souls to unimaginable tragedy.

But together, they had fought through the blood, the grief, and the chaos to forge a new destiny.

Vincenzo kissed her deeply as Dante ran over, wrapping his chubby arms around his parents' legs.
