CHAPTER 2: THE CONSEQUENCES
CHAPTER 2: THE CONSEQUENCES
Vanessa forced a nervous laugh.
“This is a misunderstanding.”
Nobody laughed with her.
A few guests quietly stepped away.
Others stared at her with open disgust.
Only minutes earlier she had been the center of attention.
Now she stood completely alone.
Olivia remained calm.
“You called me a parasite.”
Vanessa swallowed.
“I didn't know who you were.”
“Exactly.”
Olivia's voice was firm but controlled.
“You believed I was unimportant because I wasn't dressed the way you expected.”
Vanessa searched desperately for support.
None came.
Several sponsors were watching.
Business leaders were watching.
The media representatives invited to cover the gala were watching.
Every word mattered.
“Please,” Vanessa whispered. “I can explain.”
Olivia shook her head.
“No. What happened tonight doesn't need an explanation. It needs accountability.”
She extended her hand.
“Your invitation.”
Vanessa hesitated.
“Now.”
With trembling fingers, Vanessa handed it over.
Olivia examined the gold-embossed card for a moment before tearing it cleanly in half.
The sound echoed through the room.
Gasps followed.
“Your invitation is revoked,” Olivia announced.
“Effective immediately, you are no longer welcome at this club or any event hosted by my company.”
Vanessa's eyes widened.
“You can't do this.”
“I can.”
The head of security stepped forward.
“Miss Hartley, please come with us.”
The same staff Vanessa had been ordering around moments earlier now escorted her toward the exit.
As the doors closed behind her, applause slowly began.
Not for revenge.
For justice.
And for the dignity Olivia had maintained despite the humiliation.
