Chapter 3 - The Exodus

Chaos erupted. It wasn't just a scandal; it was a stampede.

Governors were shouting at their security details to get them to their cars. Venture capitalists were furiously dialing their lawyers. The pristine, floral-scented air of the Sterling estate was suddenly thick with panic and shouting.

Julian’s face had gone from pale to a dangerous, violent red. The mask of the perfect, loving gentleman melted away completely. "You stupid b*tch," he snarled, stepping toward me with his fists clenched. "Do you have any idea what you've just done? I'll ruin you. I'll make sure your family never works in this state again."

"Julian, stop!" Chloe yelled, running up the steps with her phone recording every second.

I didn't flinch. I looked at the man I had almost given my life to. "You can't ruin me, Julian," I said calmly. "You don't have a dime left to your name. I forwarded the real ledgers to the authorities at 9:00 AM."

Victoria let out a guttural shriek. She scrambled up from the floor, her designer dress smeared with the very sludge she had poured on me. She looked like a madwoman. "Security! Arrest her! Throw her out!"

But the venue security guards, the ones the Sterlings had paid top dollar for, weren't moving. In fact, they were stepping aside.

Because the loud, blaring sound of sirens was suddenly tearing up the winding driveway of the estate.
