Chapter 7 - The Trial of the Decade

The trial lasted three weeks, dominating national headlines. It was billed as the ultimate betrayal: a wealthy dynasty brought down by the daughter they threw away.

I took the stand on day fourteen.

The courtroom was packed. I wore a simple, tailored suit—one I bought with my own hard-earned money, not a cent of Sterling wealth.

Harrison tried to break me. He paced the floor, shouting questions, trying to trip me up on dates and numbers. But I had lived in that house of horrors for twenty-one years. I knew their lies better than they did. I recited account numbers, transaction dates, and verbatim conversations with perfect, unshakable clarity.

When asked why I didn't come forward sooner, I looked directly at the jury.

"Because when you are raised by wolves, you don't simply ask them to stop biting you," I said, my voice ringing clear across the silent courtroom. "You wait until you have a cage strong enough to hold them. That flash drive was the cage."

Several jurors nodded. One woman in the front row wiped a tear from her eye. The defense rested their case early, knowing they were completely outgunned by the truth.
