Chapter 6 - True Colors Revealed

The elegant, loving mask was finally entirely off.

Sofia looked around the small, modest apartment with a sneer of absolute contempt.

"You actually expect me to live like this?" she scoffed, waving her hand at his secondhand furniture.

"I am a Morgan, Lion."

"I require a certain standard of living, a certain class of society."

Lion felt a bitter, cynical laugh escape his lips.

"You are bankrupt, Sofia," Lion reminded her coldly.

"My father made sure of that this morning when the markets opened."

Sofia’s face twisted into an ugly mask of pure rage.

"You set us up!" she screamed, pointing a perfectly manicured finger directly at his chest.

"You knew he was rich all along, and you let us make absolute fools of ourselves!"

"No, I was just as blind and stupid as you were," Lion replied calmly.

"The only difference is, I am deeply ashamed of how I acted last night."

"And you are only ashamed that your family got caught."

Sofia violently grabbed her expensive designer bag from the kitchen table.

"This pathetic engagement is over," she hissed like a snake.

"I will find a real man who can provide for me, not some disinherited, weak loser."

She slammed the apartment door so hard that the cheap pictures on the wall rattled.

Lion stood completely alone in his apartment, feeling a strange, heavy sense of relief wash over him.

The toxic, suffocating weight of the Morgan family was finally gone from his life.

But the crushing guilt of betraying his hardworking father remained anchored in his chest.

He walked slowly over to his closet and pulled out a small, dusty cardboard box.

Inside were old, faded photographs of him and his dad.

Pictures of them fishing at the lake, fixing old cars in the driveway, and eating cheap pizza on Fridays.

His father had given him absolutely all the love in the world, and Lion had tossed it away for status.

He knew exactly what he had to do.

He couldn't just say sorry with empty words; he had to prove it with actions.

Lion stripped off his expensive tailored suit and put on his oldest, most worn-out jeans and work boots.

He left his car keys, his smartphone, and his leather wallet on the kitchen counter.

He walked out the door, ready to start over from the absolute bottom.
