Jason was furious that the entire school was now worshipping the boy he considered a loser.
His own popularity had plummeted, and his pride was deeply wounded by Chloe's public rejection in the cafeteria.
Jason decided he was going to ruin the campaign, out of pure, malicious spite.
He created a fake social media account and began leaving horrible comments under Max's viral video.
He claimed the cancer story was a complete scam, accusing Max of stealing the money to buy a new car.
He even took a photo of Max walking into the cold storage warehouse and posted it, claiming Max was actually buying illegal drugs in a bad neighborhood.
Because the internet loves controversy, the fake accusations began to gain traction.
A few skeptical donors demanded refunds, and the GoFundMe page was temporarily frozen for a fraud investigation.
When Max received the email notification about the account freeze, he felt his entire world collapse into dust.
They were at forty-five thousand dollars, mere inches away from saving Mia, and now the funds were locked.
Chloe found him sitting on the curb outside the school, his head buried in his hands, completely broken.
"Max, what happened?" Chloe asked, running up to him.
"Someone reported the campaign for fraud, they locked the money," Max cried, the fight finally leaving his body.
"Mia's window for the surgery is closing this week, and we can't access a single dime."
Chloe pulled out her phone, aggressively reading through the malicious comments and the fake accusations.
She recognized the poor grammar and the specific insults instantly.
"It's Jason," Chloe growled, her eyes narrowing with a terrifying, righteous fury.
"He is doing this from a fake account to ruin you."
Max shook his head, too exhausted to even feel angry.
"It doesn't matter who it is, Chloe, the damage is done, and the review process takes weeks," he sobbed.
"I am going to lose my sister."
Chloe grabbed his hand tightly, pulling him up from the curb.
"No, you are not," she declared fiercely.
