Chapter 8 - Closure

We walked out into the cool evening air. The wail of sirens grew louder, drowning out the frantic shouts coming from the wedding tent.
Maria was waiting by the Maybach with the triplets. Liam was fast asleep on her shoulder, completely undisturbed by the flashing police lights. Noah and Maya were happily playing with toy cars on the leather seats.
I climbed into the car, settling into the plush seat, and let out a long, shuddering breath. It wasn't a breath of sadness; it was the release of a weight I had carried for eight excruciating years. The ghost of the "broken, infertile wife" was finally dead and buried.
Sebastian climbed in beside me and closed the heavy armored door, instantly silencing the noise of the outside world. He didn't say anything at first. He just reached over, poured two glasses of sparkling water from the minibar, and handed me one.
"To the truth," he toasted quietly.

He looked toward our car as he was pushed into the back of a police cruiser. I knew he couldn't see me through the dark glass, but I smiled anyway.
The engine purred to life, and the Maybach pulled away from the Vance estate, leaving the wreckage of my past in the rearview mirror forever.
