Chapter 1 - The Breach

Julian Vance burst through the heavy oak doors of the nursery.

His chest heaved as if he had just run a marathon.

He expected to see shattered glass, broken furniture, or another weeping professional.

Instead, he saw a miracle that defied all logic.

Sitting in the exact center of the plush, custom-woven rug was a little boy in a faded superhero t-shirt.

The boy had a smudge of dirt on his cheek and a completely unbothered expression.

He was holding up a brightly colored plastic block, babbling a string of absolute nonsense.

On either side of him, gripping the bars of their cribs, were Leo and Lucas.

They were not screaming.

They were not throwing pureed vegetables.

They were giggling with a joyful, bubbling sound that Julian had never heard in his entire life.

Elena Rostova sprinted into the room just seconds behind the billionaire, a feather duster still clutched in her trembling hand.

Her eyes went wide with sheer terror when she saw her son, Toby, sitting between the infamous Vance twins.

“Toby, no!” she gasped, rushing forward to scoop up her child.

She knew the rules of this mansion.

She knew this room was strictly forbidden to the cleaning staff.

“Mr. Vance, I am so sorry,” Elena stammered, holding Toby tightly to her chest.

“I only turned my back for one second to grab fresh towels.”

“Please don’t fire me, I need this job.”

Julian did not look at her.

His piercing gray eyes were locked entirely on his sons.

The moment Toby was lifted away, Leo’s face crumbled into a mask of pure devastation.

Lucas immediately dropped his pacifier and let out a warning shriek.

The giggles vanished, replaced instantly by the familiar, soul-crushing wails that had haunted the estate for eighteen months.

Julian flinched, the sound hitting him like a physical blow.

He held up a hand, stopping Elena before she could cross the threshold.

“Put him down,” Julian commanded, his voice thick with an emotion he couldn't name.

Elena froze, staring at the intimidating CEO.

“Sir?” she whispered, confused and terrified.

“Put the boy back down,” Julian repeated, stepping closer.

Slowly, carefully, Elena lowered Toby back onto the rug.

Toby wobbled on his little legs, looked at the screaming twins, and blew a massive, wet raspberry.

Leo stopped crying instantly.

Lucas blinked, let out a tiny hiccup, and erupted into a fresh fit of giggles.

Julian slowly sank to his knees in his thousand-dollar suit.

He looked at Elena, his hardened corporate mask completely shattered.

“Who is he?” Julian asked softly.

“He’s my son, sir,” Elena replied nervously.

Julian did not stand up.

“Congratulations, Ms. Rostova,” he said, never taking his eyes off the laughing children.

“You are no longer a housekeeper.”
