Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Coup

Six weeks later. I was out of the hospital, navigating the world from a custom-built, motorized wheelchair. The physical therapy was agonizing, a daily battle of pain and frustration, but the burning desire for absolute justice fueled every grueling session.
The emergency shareholder meeting for Vanguard Industries was held on the top floor of our corporate high-rise in Manhattan. My uncle, Robert, had called it. With Julian awaiting trial on house arrest, Robert was desperately trying to seize emergency control of the company, claiming I was "medically unfit" to lead.
I waited in the antechamber with Thorne, listening through the heavy mahogany doors as Robert made his impassioned, slimy pitch to the board.
"My niece is severely traumatized, confined to a wheelchair, and heavily medicated," Robert told the investors. "She cannot possibly manage a multibillion-dollar logistics empire. I move for an immediate vote of no confidence to place me as interim CEO."
Thorne looked at me, raising an eyebrow. I nodded. Thorne pushed the double doors open, the heavy wood groaning under the weight.
The boardroom went dead silent.
I motored into the room, stopping directly at the head of the table. I wasn't in hospital scrubs; I was wearing my grandmother's vintage Chanel power suit, tailored perfectly.
"I may be seated, Uncle Robert, but I assure you, my mind is standing perfectly upright," I said, my voice echoing off the glass walls. I dropped a heavy stack of folders onto the polished table. "These are the final audits my grandmother completed before she died. They detail seventy-four counts of wire fraud, embezzlement, and racketeering orchestrated by Robert and Julian Vanguard."

Robert turned the color of ash. "This is a fabrication! You're hysterical!"
"The SEC didn't think so when my lawyer delivered copies to them this morning," I replied smoothly. "You aren't taking over Vanguard Industries, Robert. You're being liquidated. As the majority shareholder, I am officially terminating your employment. Security will escort you to the lobby, where federal agents are currently waiting for you."
