Chapter 10 - A New Order
Six months later.
The sun was shining brightly over the Silva compound. The heavy gates were still there, and the security was just as tight, but the atmosphere inside the walls had irrevocably changed.
Roman stepped out onto the expansive back patio. He was wearing a casual linen shirt, the sleeves rolled up, revealing the faint scar on his shoulder.
He leaned against the stone railing, watching the scene on the massive green lawn below.
Elena was sitting on a picnic blanket, reading a book. She had gained weight, her cheeks flushed with color, her eyes bright and entirely devoid of fear. The surgery had been a complete success. She wasn't just surviving anymore; she was living.
A few yards away, Leo was running across the grass, laughing hysterically as Silas, the hulking syndicate enforcer, chased him with a water balloon.
Roman smiled, a genuine, warm expression that his enemies would have never believed existed. He had stepped back from the violent, day-to-day operations of the syndicate, transitioning his vast wealth into legitimate real estate and logistics companies. He had built an empire of blood, but he was choosing to rule it with peace.
Elena looked up from her book, catching Roman’s eye. She smiled, setting the book down, and walked up the stone steps to the patio. She wrapped her arms around him, resting her head against his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat.
“You’re staring,” she teased softly.
“Just admiring my world,” Roman replied, kissing the top of her head.
“Hey, Roman!” Leo yelled from the lawn, holding up a bright red apple he had snagged from the picnic basket. “Catch!”

Leo threw the apple with surprising accuracy. Roman caught it easily in one hand. He looked at the fruit, a symbol of the day his entire life had changed, the day a seventy-eight-cent deficit had bought him a family.
He took a bite of the apple, wrapped his arm tighter around Elena, and watched his son play in the sun. The past was buried. The future was finally theirs.
